Samruddha Jana Parishad

For a prosperous and vibrant community

Samruddha Jana Parishad was formed in 2007 based on the harsh realities experienced of rural Maharashtra during a 2-month, 943-km, Padayatra. These experiences and in depth analysis of the same prompted few urban professionals and rural youth to come together in order to facilitate dialogue and conscious action by affected people to resolve these issues.

We believe the basis of democracy is collective decision making. We believe that solutions evolved by the affected people are practical and long-lasting, rather than solutions imparted from outside. We facilitate and promote seeking solutions to rural issues through a process of dialogue and debate using existing government mechanisms and the Gram Sabha (Village Meeting), an integral part of the Panchayat Raj. Our principal goal is to facilitate access to existing constitutional rights and entitlements to all people.

Our facilitators bring together entire village communities across class and castes to resolve common issues. Some of the examples of our initiatives include tapping into Employment Guarantee Scheme funds to initiate drought protection projects and provide jobs; facilitating government sponsored water resource mapping in drought affected villages; activating village committees. SJP is a not-for-profit trust registered under the Bombay Public (Charitable) Trust Act 1950.
